Bestmed Eden Street Mile Series:

The Bestmed Eden Street Mile Series will once again take place in 2017 with Cycling also included in the program.

On 16 December the BESTMED KLEIN KAROO STREET MILE will take place in Oudtshoorn and will be the first leg of the series is on the fastest course and is run along the historic Baron van Reede street in Oudtshoorn. It finishes in front of the CP Nel Museum, formerly Oudtshoorn Boys’ High and alma mater of South Africa’s first dream miler, De Villiers Lamprecht who was head boy of this school. 

On 18 December the BESTMED MADIBAZ STREET MILE will be at NMU George Campus. The scenic circular route on the NMU George Campus is very popular with spectators as they can watch the race unfold against the spectacular backdrop of the Outeniqua Mountains. A cycling criterium race(Lap Racing) will be held  where cyclists will race around the track for a certain time +1 lap. This format is always exiting.

The categories the cyclists will compete in is firstly the U/9, U/11 & U/13 category; U/15 & U/17 category;  Vets over 44 category and lastly the Elite U/23 & Vets under 45. These 4 categories will compete for podium positions in the male and female competition. Take note that die categories differ on the manual form. The prize money allocated to the cycling categories is R 15 000 and all the participants will receive a medal and the podium positions a separate podium medal.

Cycling event is conducted under the rules of Cycling South Africa and gear ratios apply for junior and younger, No CSA licence checks will be done. In the Criterium race the lapped riders will be pulled off the track.

There will be accommodation available at R150 P/P at Pinhurst Hostel for the Oudtshoorn event and can be booked with Stephanie Mckay of the Eden District Sport Academy at 044 272 0367. There will also be an ostrich braai at Pinehurst Saturday evening at a cost of R50. Please indicate to Stephanie Mckay.
